Thank you, you have already let me know you have received mine. Don't suppose you can tell us how many entries you've had?

I know you have mine, I keep forgetting to email you the photo though. Will have to do it when I turn the computer on after the school run.

I'm still waiting for one, and I posted here just in case there were others who've sent one that I know nothing about! Anyway, significantly less than last year... But the ones sent in were FANTASTIC!!!!

personally I struggled with the themes. I wanted to do something somewhat different, but inspiration only came on the last day, and my beads were a little too adventurous and experimental and cracked, another day and I might have had it, but then they wouldn't have got there! really would have loved to have got one sent in, clearly wasnt meant to be

I don't know and I wonder why too! This year we gave the most amount of time for the competition...and we sent out a reminder too, plus posts here. Perhaps we need a rethink / a change of format? Maybe every 2 years instead? In any case it will be discussed at the next GBUK committee meeting, so I would welcome some fresh ideas. Charlotte x

I'm the same as Madeline, I really wanted to enter, but couldn't get my head round the curiosity theme at all and my skills just weren't up to the one I tried for fauna. Def the themes meant it didn't happen for me , but then it was more to do with me than them possibly.

I could really have done with a reminder near the beginning of January - I managed with the February one but it was a bit close (and it was something I'd done the 'investigating' stages for before, so I wasn't starting from scratch).
Maybe it did have the longest amount of time given, but a big chunk of that was over Christmas and I'd totally forgotten about the competition with everything going on!

I don't know about every one else but I work best under pressure. If I think I have ages to do something I will still put it off till the night before. Maybe we had too much time? *Wince* I thought the themes were very broad and almost anything could of been worked into either. Its a shame if there are less entries. It is a good way to promote British Lampworkers and I'm sure all the people going to flame off love to look at the competition entries.

Personally I was completely oblivious that there was a competition until the beginning of feb. So that gave four weeks. Then I was ill for two of those weeks. No I shouldn't have been at the torch but I did risk it a few times. So that left 14 days... I struggled with the themes as well but I popped over to the parents and they really helped me get the thought process started. I guess this is a way of thinking that I haven't really done before. I did have another idea that I wasn't able to explore. I needed so of the equipment at my local uni and my tutor has cleared me to use it but again because I was ill there wasn't enough time to make it and then use the equipment that I only have access to once a week and would you believe that was the tuesday evening that everything needed to be in the post for. I did also get a little thrown with Feb being a 29 day month, I did think until the sunday that I had an extra day . But never mind!

Thank you for the imput! We do need to give the beaders in particular quite a long time, as some of their entries can take AGES to make! And I agree that we could have given out a reminder at the beginning of the year too. 2 or 3 reminders wouldn't be too much, would they? It's such a shame that the themes didn't suit everyone - and we hoped to avoid this by having two!!! From my perspective, it's been blooming cold out in my studio, so I haven't had much torch time yet this year. Perhaps others may have encountered the same problem. I wonder if the competition is set too early in the year, and perhaps tying it in with the IGF would be more suitable for the entrants schedules? BUT, the Flame Off is such a FANTASTIC venue to display the beads & jewellery, and Martin & Simon have been wonderful helping GBUK with the space that we have. I think that for displaying the competition/collection, the Flame Off is the best choice, and then we can also display it at the IGF later on, so to promote our work it's the smartest move. On the bright side I do have a month before the Flame Off to arrange the display, and this is needed, as it's always been so hectic and rushed before

I agree the Flame off is *the* place to have this competition.
I think lots of reminders is a good idea. It's not like that can be interpreted as nagging.
Once I got into the right mind set I did enjoy the first theme.

I liked having more time to "think" about what to do, but I find I do work better under pressure and although i knew what I wanted to do for a while it wasn't done till near the end. Don't ask about the jewellery, talk about the last minute, made Sunday evening, photographed Monday after work and posted Tuesday after work. Oh well, all done now. I'm really looking forward to seeing the entries, can't wait for the Flame Off

I must admit I struggled with the categories for a while and have lots of sketches and doodles to prove it! I needed quite a lot of time for the thought processes and then left myself short for the making, but then again if you'd given us an extra month I probably would have refined and altered things so probably would still have been in the same boat! There's nothing like a deadline to focus the mind! I must admit I love to see the beads at the FO too, so I would be sorry if that went but then I suppose they could still be there for the following April as you wouldn't be returning them til the August (or whenever the ISG is?)
