Thanks for the suggestion of a poll - can you tell I'm new to the forum world!

I have been thinking of creating a range of bails from metal clay.  I've been making them for a while now to use with my fused glass. Just wanted to run it past you glassy people to see whether any of you would buy them (in theory, no obligation!!), or whether they would be too costly.  I think that they would have to be about £4 - £5.

They would be textured so that the silver would have a pattern to it to make it more unusual, plus I could custom make them to be the correct size for your glass - you get the general idea!

Any feedback, comments would be greatly received - feel free to say no!

Thanks

Hi

I will definitely put some piccies up, I need to make some more first though!! Used up my stock over the past couple of weeks.  As soon as they're made I'll let you see them.  I'm in the early "thinking" stage at the moment, I use them quite a lot and wondered if it could turn into a business idea!

Just wanted to get some feedback - isn't it great to be able to bounce creative ideas off like minded people and not just your husband who tends to glaze over after a bit!

I'm inspired to go and make some now!  What can I give my toddler to do!!??  How long is it til bedtime!!??

Have you thought of making them in metal clay and finishing them really well then getting them cast at somewhere like Palmer's metals?
That way you could bring down the price of them as metal clay is expensive.
I made my own wedding rings and sent a wax model away to be cast then got two done and sized them for me and my hubby.
I think the total cost of silver was £4.00 for the two of them but about another £10-15 postage and casting charges. They do get cheaper the more you send.
I did silversmithing at night school for about 6 years, I never produced much but made lots of friends and had a laugh!
Just a thought, let me know how you get on.
Cheers,
Jessie

Hi Jessie

I haven't got anything cast as I never have the quantites to make it worthwhile!  Also, I like things to be handmade! I've done silversmithing as well and although metal clay can be expensive, with the time saved in labour it works out a lot cheaper in the long run I think!  Also I love the flexibility of what can be done with it!
