Hi everyone! I'm a newbie based in Upminster, Essex. I recently attended a taster session with Sarah Downton ... and now I'm hooked! I spend most of my time (at the moment!) running my scrapbooking craft shop and babysitting my 21 month old nephew! But I'm hoping to find some time and space (garage clearing in progress!) to indulge this new hobby! The hardest thing for me will be taking it one step at a time and managing my expectations of what I can actually achieve!
Though I'm planning to start with a hot head with bulk, I haven't got the money at the moment for a kiln ... so I was very very happy to see that some of you are able to batch anneal for us newbies! One quick question ... and I know I'm getting ahead of myself :-) ... but I read that encased beads have to go straight into a heated kiln ... is that true? Or can they be cooled in vermiculite and then batch annealed?
Thanks for your help! Emma

Hiya Hun and welcome!
Encased beads can be popped into vermic. along with the rest, or a fibre blanket (my preference). The ones you have to be careful with are those that are sculptural, or with inclusions such as CZ's, silver foil/leaf, wire, baking soda and other stuff, some specific glass colours/types have special requirements and like to go straight in the kiln - lauscha likes to go in the kiln glowing!
