I can take a picture of mine if you like, it's not wrapped yet as things are setting and I'm charging batteries!  Grin

Batteries - are they for the bead or camera?   Grin

Neither, they are for the mandrel the set is on, if it's too much of a hog though please feel free to amend any of it!

This sounds cool  Smiley

Please don't show any pics until after Friday though hon we wouldn't want an unsuspecting judge stumbling accross any pics on the interweb  Shocked They won't know whos is whos you see until after they've judged the competition.

I'm very excited now about the whole Flame Off though, can't wait to say hi to everyone  Smiley

I don't think they frequent the forum, I will ensure they're emailed though and warned off the thread, I honestly don't think any of them have been reading this or are even aware of it though so don't fret  Smiley

A general note to everyone - One of the judges Ray Skene (and possibly the others) is on Facebook though, and is 'friends' with many other lampworkers and members of the glass community so I think it would be advisable not to post pictures of your entries on facebook until he's bogged off the Towcester  Grin

I did put something about this on the entry form  Wink

Ahhhh, I was just chatting to Ray on FB earlier!  We took a class together back in 2005!  There's no piccies of my entry anywhere though and I've talked more about it's setting than the beads themselves....he he

Not sure how you are reducing but try turning the propane up rather than the oxy down (hot reducing rather than cool reducing!)

How are you keeping the bead once you've made it? The annealing bubbles are supposed to be much better than vermiculite. I used to pre-heat my pot of vermiculite in the oven and that worked a treat. I've not used fibre blanket so I don't know what that's like. The only glass that I've ever had problems with batch annealing is some of the CiM opals. DH is usually quite well behaved. Are you flame annealing, as that might help or would that interfere with the reduction that you're doing? Also, the bigger the bead, the more problems it will have with stress.

I agree  flame annealing is well worth the time, and it gives you longer to ogle the bead  Cheesy A quick flash at the back of a reduction flame after flame annealing should fetch the Triton out, it usually plays nice. Hope you have better luck tomorrow hon.

yep i have annealing bubbles in a slow cooker, which i usually switch on as i start, so it has a long while to warm up! I try to flame anneal but i worry about melting in too much detail so possibly not getting it as hot as i should...i will try again tomorrow, maybe try a thicker base bead so i dont mash as thinly, definately feeling the pressure now!
